What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a cloud storage and file syncing service that allows users to store and share files online such as photos and videos. It enables users to store and access their files from anywhere, anytime, and from any device.

One way to try and prevent the need to pay for extra storage is by deleting duplicate or similar photos from your account.

Delete Dropbox photos locally

Dropbox is designed to be an invisible app. It gives you a folder on your computer that automatically backs up and syncs your files across all your devices.

• Download and install the Delete Duplicate Photos app for your computer
• Open the Delete Duplicate Photos app on your computer
• Click on Local Files and navigate to your Dropbox folder
• Click on Scan to begin the process of detecting duplicate photos
• You’ll see duplicate matches and an option to delete
• Tap Delete to delete duplicate photos
• The deleted photos will automatically be removed from all your devices

If you accidentally deleted a photo you want to keep, no need to worry. You can recover these deleted photos within a certain time frame by logging into your Dropbox account and un-deleting the photos from the trash.

Delete Dropbox photos with API

If you do not have the Dropbox app installed on your computer, there is another way to delete duplicate photos from your account. We have integrated with the Dropbox API to retrieve your photos.

• Download and install the Delete Duplicate Photos app for your computer
• Open the Delete Duplicate Photos app on your computer
• Click on Dropbox and login with your Dropbox account
• Click on Scan to begin the process of detecting duplicate photos with the Dropbox API
• You’ll see duplicate matches and an option to delete
• Tap Delete to delete duplicate photos which will bring you to the photo on Dropbox to delete it there
• The deleted photos will automatically be removed from all your devices

We do not automatically delete the photo for you, you need to do this yourself in Dropbox. However, we make it really simple by linking you directly to the image.

As mentioned above, if you accidentally deleted a photo you want to keep, no need to worry. You can recover these deleted photos within a certain time frame by logging into your Dropbox account and un-deleting the photos from the trash.
